Are Your Kids Online?

Imagine the shock of finding pictures, stories, and videos of your four year old online.

We were recently contacted by a concerned parent unsure of her reaction to finding her four year old son online - complete with full name, age, and stories she hadn't heard from either the daycare or her son. Was her reaction out of line, she asked. Was this no big deal?

Football, Coaches, School Districts, and Corporal Punishment

According to the Dallas Morning News this morning, an investigation into the Spring 2007 paddling of a high school football player has been completed and a report filed.

Inclusive Child Care

While surfing for information on daycare and childcare options (can you tell this topic fascinates me?), I stumbled across a guide to inclusive childcare, written by DisabilityRights Wisconsin. This guide is an EXCELLENT resource on how to set up and maintain communication bridges between parents, children, and daycare providers - all while ensuring quality level care, instruction, and social interaction for a child.

Finding a Great Nanny

Nannies are a great resource for your child - individualized attention, regular routines, and environments based solely on your child. Yet finding the right nanny, much like finding the right daycare, can be difficult.

A few tips on choosing the right nanny:

They show a genuine interest in your whole family.
Your child is excited to see them each day.
Your child can’t wait to tell you about their activities together.
You are comfortable having them in your home—they fit.

Home Child Care vs. Center-based Child Care: Round One

Generally speaking, two types of childcare exist: those based out of a person's home, and those based out of a center or institution.

Choosing between the two types can be difficult, and should be based on the experience you wish the child to have. Home-based child care may be more nurturing, with fewer children to each caregiver; center-based child care may have more opportunity for social interaction and learning opportunities.

Windshield Wiper Fluid is NOT Kool-Aid

This story is just out of Arkansas, and has been the talk of the water cooler here in the office today.

Apparently ten children, aged 2 to 7, were served windshield wiper fluid at an Arkansas daycare facility yesterday afternoon.

Preventing Child Abuse - By Walking

This is still quite far away, but I received news today that the group Prevent Child Abuse Texas has posted information on their annual walk-a-thon.

This year, the destination is San Antonio during the balmy month of November. Twenty miles, one goal - to prevent child abuse here in Texas.

We encourage you to check in, lace up, and get walking!

Choosing a Summer Camp

The summer camp season is soon to be upon kids of all ages. We at the Rasansky Law Firm remember our camp days fondly – scout camps, sport camps, music camps, art camps – and are now looking forward to sending our own kids off for a week or more this summer.

So what are we looking for in a summer camp for our kids?
