When Wesley and Leslie Locklair hired 60-year old Cheryl Ann White to care for their infant, they did so assuming a personal nanny would provide better care than a daycare facility. White has now been charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
The couple suspected the care given their child was less than ideal and installed a “nanny cam.” According to an article in MyrtleBeachOnline, they said they viewed the video, saw “many different incidents” of abuse, and made a police report. The article quotes Mr. Locklair as having said: “In one case, [White] has her on the floor, yanking her by her arm. In another, [White] is grabbing her by her feet, shaking her like she was a sheet and a number of times [White] picked her up and dropped her.” A visit to the pediatrician revealed no injury to the child.
The Locklairs, both attorneys, filed a Freedom of Information Act request for tape, but the police have retained it as evidence in an ongoing investigation.
