There are several issues related to breathing issues for our infant that are preventable. We just need to be aware of them. When you leave your child with a childcare provider or use an infant product, make sure they meet these safety issues.

According to a study in Pediatrics found that 20 percent of newborns suffered from a decrease in oxygen levels in their blood when they slept in car seats. Because of the baby’s position in the car seat, their heads can lean too far forward and decrease their breathing capacity. This isn’t bad for short periods of time but beware of extended periods. A simple detail but an important one…be careful about the use of blankets, large pillows or other items that can become lodged in front of the baby’s face or obstruct their mouth and nose as they sleep.

Archives of Pediatric Adolescent Medicine indicated that infants who slept in rooms ventilated by fans had a 72 percent lower risk of SIDS than babies who slept in bedrooms without them. So make sure your baby’s room is well insulated and the child is not surrounded by items prevented air flow. Be careful of products or even childcare services that do not follow these steps to make sure your infant is well protected.
