Discovering daycare abuse is always disturbing. Most of the time, parents are understandably going to be in quite a spin about what they should do to deal with the situation. There are a few things you need to keep in mind when you’re considering what to do:
- Children are in danger
- A crime is being committed
- You have to do something
These are all undeniable truths in any situation where daycare child abuse is going on. If you’re certain that your child is being abused at the daycare facility, here are some steps you can take to deal with the situation in a way that will protect the child and you from being further victimized by the abuser.
1: Report It
Take your child to their doctor. If it’s after hours and you discover the signs of abuse, take them to an ER. The doctor and healthcare staff will document the signs of abuse so that evidence is being collected that can be used against the person committing the abuse. Contact the authorities on your own. If you go into a hospital or a doctor’s office with a child showing signs of abuse, it’s going to be reported. It’s best for you to contact the authorities on your own so they can start getting to the bottom of the situation right away.
2: Listen to the Authorities
The authorities will tell you what you need to do. Don’t speak to anybody about what’s going on without their permission. They’ll be putting together a criminal case against somebody as soon as they find evidence as to who was responsible for the abuse. They’ll also need to determine for certain that whatever injuries your child sustained were, in fact, the results of abuse and not caused by something else.
3: Stay Calm
As a parent, every instinct in your body will tell you not only to protect your children, but to avenge them when they are wronged. Do not act on the latter impulse. The authorities will take care of any criminal elements that are involved in the abuse. The only thing you need to do is to take care of your child and to take care of yourself while the case unfolds. If it does become something of great notoriety, remember to never speak with the media about any aspect of the case without the authorities knowing about it first.
After everything has been taken care of, contact a daycare abuse lawyer who can help you sue for compensation for the daycare child abuse you suffered.
