HOPE MILLS, NC — Daycare worker Chastity Patterson has been arrested after allegedly dislocating a toddler’s elbow.
32-year-old Chastity Patterson, an employee at “Pampers, Hugs and Luv’s” daycare in Hope Mills, was arrested on Tuesday December 29th and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.
Authorities say that Chastity Patterson, of Fayetteville, dislocated a 22-month-old’s elbow when trying to make the child pick up toys.
The child’s parents reported the injury to police on November 20th, and detectives found that Patterson was in charge of caring for the toddler when the injury occurred. Detectives also said that an investigation revealed Patterson “pulled the child’s arm in such a way to separate the elbow joint.”
The 22-month-old child was treated at Cape Fear Valley Health System for a dislocated elbow. The injury is commonly referred to as “nurse maid elbow,” says the sheriff’s office.
Patterson is charged with one count of “felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.” She is currently being held in the Cumberland County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
